South Side works with other organizations to accomplish our common goal of loving others and glorifying God. Each of the organizations that we partner with, and the way that we plan to interface with them, is described below. You may donate financial and/or material gifts directly to SSCOG for each of these organizations. Financial gifts specified for “Missions” this fiscal year will be split evenly between Broadway Christian Parish and Mission Haiti. Financial gifts are also accepted to be directed specifically toward Broadway Christian Parish, Mission Haiti, and Operation Christmas Child. Material donations are accepted for Broadway Christian Parish, Operation Christmas Child, and Angel Tree as detailed below. Finally, your gifts of time are appreciated for the Broadway Christian Parish, Operation Christmas Child, and Angel Tree ministries.
Broadway Christian Parish
Broadway Christian Parish is a United Methodist congregation located near downtown South Bend that has a heart for serving the homeless in our community. Broadway offers a free hot breakfast every Monday – Thursday morning and lunch on Sunday after church to anyone who walks through their doors. Broadway also provides hot showers, mail service, and a hospitality room to their guests. Their food pantry provides the option of traditional bags of groceries (once monthly per household) and meal-ready bags targeted for the homeless (once weekly). SSCOG collects food and clothing donations for Broadway year-round. SSCOG will also prepare breakfast once quarterly on Sundays for Monday delivery – watch the announcements for requested donations of food and when to help prepare the breakfasts.
Mission Haiti Medical, founded by Mark and Kathy Fulton, formerly of Indiana, spreads the love of Jesus Christ by meeting medical needs through a healthcare alliance with our brothers and sisters in Haiti. The hospital provides a wide range of services including dental, laboratory, radiology, emergency, surgery, prosthetics, and pharmacy. Financial gifts allow this ministry to continue.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a ministry managed by Samaritan’s Purse where shoebox gifts are collected and distributed to children around the world to spread the message of the Gospel. We will collect small, new items such as toys, clothing, school supplies, and hygiene items year-round at SSCOG. The items will then be packed into shoeboxes and driven to our local drop-off collection site. A donation of $9 per shoebox is made to Samaritan’s Purse as requested to support the shipping cost of that gift. Financial gifts to SSCOG designated for OCC will be used to cover shipping costs and shoebox gifts. Watch the announcements for details on opportunities to help prepare the shoebox gifts.
Angel Tree is a program by Prison Fellowship that reaches out to the children of prisoners and their families with the love of Christ. Prisoners sign up their child(ren) and indicate the type of Christmas gift that they would like to get their child(ren). At SSCOG, we receive the names and ages of these children, choice of gift of the incarcerated parent, and contact information. We purchase a gift for each child, wrap it, and deliver to their home. Please wait until November and December to help with this ministry!
